Soldier From Walla Walla Dies in Afghanistan Helicopter Crash

1st Lt. Mathew G. Fazzari, 25, was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC.

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, including one from Washington state.

They died June 6, in Qarah Bagh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their helicopter crashed. They were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
