Recycle Your, Um, Stuff At The University Place Festival

Green UP and Friendly Earth are offering to accept an array of items from around the house at no cost to you.

The effort to make the community greener is giving people a chance to help at the next month.

The Green UP & Friendly Earth groups will offer free recycling of junk such as old computers, lawn mowers, scrap metal, batteries and more at no cost.

That’s right. If you have something you’re just waiting to rid yourself of, here’s your chance.

Free Earth is a nonprofit company that recycles and re-sells items.

Green UP is a sustainability partnership between the City of University Place, the school district, the library and West Pierce Fire & Rescue to improve sustainable habits and education in the community.

The effort is the latest addition to UP Fest, whose roster of activities continues to grow. During the Aug. 6 event, organizers will accept donations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cirque-Bridgeport Park.

In terms of the recycling event, Friendly Earth accepts the following:

Appliances: washers, dryers, refrigerators, heating units, AC’s, etc.

Batteries: Alkaline, Lithium Ion, Metal Hydride, etc.

Computers: desktops, laptops, monitors, printer, cables, cords, peripherals, etc.

Electronics: televisions, stereos, cell phones, chargers, speakers, media players and recorders, projectors, etc.

Heavy machinery: mowers, edgers, trimmers, farm equipment, vehicles, restaurant, etc.

All scrap metal

Clothes and books

Note: Can’t accept light bulbs.
