POLL: Do You Support Banning Texting While Walking?

As communities across the country have banned texting while driving, one New Jersey town has opted to prohibit people from doing it while walking. We ask you, Patch users, is it a good idea or is it going too far?

Your buddy: "Where u @?"

You: "Walking down the street"

Your buddy: "LOL! Ur a rebel!"

You: "Yep ... Oh crap. I'm being pulled over by a cop"

While this text-message conversation is unlikely in University Place, at least one New Jersey town has made it by possible by banning texting while walking.

The Huffington Post reports that Fort Lee, NJ implemented the ban in late March, and officers have issued 117 violations to date.

The penalty for texting while walking? $85.

OMG

Fort Lee authorities say it's an issue of safety and cited local and national instances in which texting contributed directly to accidents.

So we ask you, Patch users, would you support a ban on texting while walking? Let us know in our poll and via the comments section.
