Joint Base Lewis-McChord To Conduct Garrison Command Change Ceremony Friday

Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew Barnes will hand over the responsibilities of the JBLM Garrison Command Sergeant Major to Chief Master Sgt. Dedra Lewis. In his new assignment, Barnes will help oversee the training of Saudi Arabian forces.

Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew Barnes will hand over the responsibilities of the Joint Base Garrison Command Sergeant Major to Chief Master Sgt. Dedra Lewis in a ceremony at the Joint Base headquarters Friday.

Barnes has held the position of garrison command sergeant major since July 2008, and played a key role in the transition of Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base into Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2010. He leaves JBLM to become the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the United States Military Training Mission – Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In his new assignment, Barnes will help oversee the training of Saudi forces.

Lewis is currently the Air Force senior enlisted advisor for the Joint Base Garrison. She will fulfill the duties of the garrison command sergeant major until the arrival of the incoming garrison command sergeant major, Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald E. Johnson. Johnson is currently assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, at Fort Drum, NY.
