  • Where/When: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends; 5-8:30 p.m. on weekdays at 33rd St W & Bridgeport Way W in University Place.
  • Why Go: Don't wait until the last minute to get your Christmas tree this year; let Boy Scout Troop 248 help you get that chore out of the way early. They'll be selling trimmed Douglas Firs, Grand Firs, Noble Firs and beautiful 16-inch wreaths. The sale starts on Saturday and runs through Thursday. Come early for the best selection.
  • Cost: Prices vary.

  • Where/When: 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Lakewood Playhouse.
  • Why Go: Join the Lakewood Playhouse for the opening weekend of its newest production, "OLIVER!" This Tony Award winning family musical is sure to keep audiences of all ages entertained with classic musical theater songs and dance.
  • Cost: $28 for general admission; $25 for seniors/military; and $22 for students/educators.

  • Where/When: 5-9 p.m. daily through Jan. 1 at Point Defiance Zoo.
  • Why Go: Bundle up and head to Tacoma as the zoo comes to life with more than a half-million lights for the opening weekend of Zoolights. Make the trip this Friday, Sunday or any Wednesday to catch Scuba-Diving Santa swimming with the sharks in the steamy South Pacific Aquarium.
  • Cost: General admission is $8.25; discounts are offered for seniors, Pierce County residents and Zoo members.

  • Where/When: 5:30-9 p.m. daily through Jan. 1 at Spanaway Park.
  • Why Go: If the weather doesn't cooperate this weekend, Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park might be a better option then Zoolights. The beautiful two-mile drive along Spanaway Lake is the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest, featuring nearly 300 elaborate displays and thousands of sparkling lights. As you drive, tune your radio to FM 93.7 to listen to a selection of special holiday music performed by a local high school to add to the festive atmosphere of the park.
  • Cost: $13 per vehicle.

  • Where/When: 4-5 p.m. on Sunday at .
  • Why Go: Bring the family to Adriana Hess Park and join the Tahoma Audubon Society for a guided walking tour through the park. You'll learn all about the park and get a bit of exersice at the same time.
  • Cost: Free.
