DUCK DAZE: List of Festivities

From the Duck Parade to Disney characters to the Race-A-Duck to Get Local to Treasures in the Park, things are going to get quacky. Too much?

Wanna know what's going on at Saturday's Duck Daze Festival? Here's a rundown, according to the City of University Place:

The City of University Place will ring in the summer season on Saturday, June 2 at the 12th annual Duck Daze Celebration. The day-long festivities include the popular Duck Daze Parade, the “Treasures in the Park” Community Antique/Plant and Garage Sale, the Fire and Police Open House, the UPTown Cruisin’ Car Show, the “Get Local” Business Summerfest, and a new feature, the first Duck Race.

The Duck Daze Parade commences at 10 a.m., running from 27th to 37th Streets along Bridgeport Way. Rain or shine, this annual parade is fun for the whole family. Bands, parade vehicles and marchers, walkers and bikers all take part in this community outing. While you’re certain to see the ever-present yellow clothing and duck hats, this year will also feature a Disney-themed section, so keep your eyes open for little princesses and other Disney characters. Attendees are encouraged to join in the fun and dress up to bring Disney to University Place.

Immediately after the parade, look for the Duck Race which will kick off in the southwest Civic Building parking lot. It’s not too late to enter your own lucky duck – just visit www.raceaduck.org. Proceeds will benefit University Place Community Supported Parks and Recreation.

Treasures in the Park will fill the scenic Homestead Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering bargains galore, plant and antique sales, and dining choices for event-goers. The event is free and is a great opportunity for family fun, tasty food and terrific on-stage entertainment, featuring local musicians and dance groups, while you buy those undiscovered “treasures” in the park!

West Pierce Fire Headquarters will be hosting the Fire and Police Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing free hotdogs prepared by U.P. Firefighters as well as other refreshments. Kids will enjoy seeing the big rigs and engines that keep the community safe, meeting our own U.P. Public Safety personnel, and getting their face painted or purchasing custom-fitted bike helmets or life jackets.

The UPTown Cruisin’ Association and American Legion Post 138 invite you to their annual Car Show. Come and see one of the best displays of hot rods, tuners, classics, antique and modern cars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee for entry is still at $15 per vehicle this year, with proceeds going to U.P. Community Supported Parks and Recreation.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the “Get Local” Business Summerfest will delight you with their array of local choices from University Place businesses. Get to know your local businesses as you bid on the auction baskets at each booth!
