Opening day of the South Tacoma Farmers Market is Sunday, and many University Place shoppers couldn't be happier.

The 2012 season will begin at the market's new location at the MetroParks STAR Center. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., shoppers can get a delicious but affordable feast of fresh and locally grown vegies, meats, handcrafted cheeses, fresh eggs, wild salmon, baked goods, fresh cut flowers and much more.

The South Tacoma Farmers Market welcomes over 30 new vendors, including farmers, bakers, food preservation experts, and cooks. In addition to our farm fresh goods there will be a delectable offering of prepared foods including NaNa Bell’s southern style BBQ, traditional Filipino Lumpia from Lumpia World, fresh fruit smoothies and organic kettle corn.

You don’t have to be a culinary master to prepare easy and delicious meals that are also good for you. We will be showing you how inside the STAR Center, where we will be hosting live cooking demonstrations in the brand new, state of the art demonstration kitchen.

Trying to start a garden of your own? Join us during the market season for gardening demos by farmer Kathy Gratzer, teaching you everything from soil testing to starter transplanting!
