Will Harbor Greens and Trader Joe's Compete For The Same Customers?

Both are specialty grocery stores that offer items you won't be able to find elsewhere in University Place, but will they compete for the same customer base when Harbor Greens opens next year? Tell us, Patch users.

University Place has been buzzing the past week over the news that Harbor Greens Market is coming to town in 2013.

Patch users overwhelmingly supported the Gig Harbor-based store crossing the Narrows in our unscientific poll. True, only 14 people voted, but you get the point.

But the news got us thinking. Harbor Greens is a great store with loyal customers and hard-to-find goods.

You know what else is a good store with loyal customers and hard-to-find goods? Trader Joe's, which is located at Green Firs shopping center, less than a mile from where Harbor Greens will open at Bridgeport Way and 27th Street West.

They're both specialty grocery stores. Both sell great wines. Harbor Greens has a full-service deli while Trader Joe's has an endless array of dried goods.

Trader Joe's has already proven it can attract customers outside of University Place, while Harbor Greens has a following that stretches beyond Gig Harbor.

With so many similarities and seemingly similar shoppers, we're wondering if Harbor Green and Trader Joe's will be competing for the same customers.

Now, we want to hear from you, Patch users, whether you think Trader Joe's and Harbor Greens will compete for the same customers once the latter opens next year. Tell us in the comments below, and don't forget about the conversation on our Facebook page.
