Official: Massimo's Italian Bar & Grill To Open Sunday

The opening of the Italian restaurant in the former Captain Nemo's building has been one of the most anticipated in University Place.

will open its doors in University Place on Sunday.

That's according to UP City Councilman Javier Figueroa, who wrote an e-mail to constituents today.

"They have remodeled the restaurant—it looks really nice," he wrote. "I have visited their restaurant in Purdy. They have great food (flavors are great) and reasonably priced."

He said Sunday is considered a test opening, and the restaurant will have a grand opening later.

The restaurant's opening has been one of the most anticipated in University Place. The owners already have a restaurant in Purdy.

For weeks, the sign in front of the restaurant has read, "Coming Soon," with workers filing in and out in preparation of the opening. The restaurant was awaiting to get the proper permitting before its official opening.

So if Massimo's does open its doors Sunday - days after - both officials and hungry residents might utter one word collectively.
