Make Way for Applebees: Demolition Begins in UP

It all just seems more official now: demolition on the former Fortune Place Buffet off Bridgeport Way in University Place has begun, to make way for Applebees.

Applebees officials had been looking for space in town for several months and the chain has signed a 25 year-lease in UP, according to the news clip for PC-TV.

Randy Boss, Chief Executive Manager at WWR Properties / Hogan Enterprises, said his team is building the project from scratch.

"Rather than try to fit a new Applebee’s into the old existing building, we have decided that we will demolish that structure and Applebee’s will build one of their new prototype restaurants on that site," Boss said. "We have had a crew inside the existing building ... removing all of the current Asian format furniture, fixtures and equipment - which is being moved to Port Angeles to a new buffet restaurant there, in advance of the demolition."

The restaurant is slated to open this fall.
