JavaTech Is Here To Fill A Caffeinated Gap In University Place

The coffee shop opened this month at the former location of TostaCaffe off 40th Street West.

Cravers of caffeine in University Place can rejoice, as they have another local option to get delicious java, energy infused smoothies and other treats right in the heart of the city.

JavaTech, a new coffee shop that hopes to offer technology savvy customers a caffeinated haven, is now open.

Owner Yul Nelson opened the shop earlier this month, in the former location of 7320 40th Street, next to Rocky's Mini Mart. Former owner opted to  because of rising costs.

For the past week, curious customers have driven by or even stopped in JavaTech, which hopes to offer another, more local option for coffee consumers in University Place.

Barista Katherine Dawson told Patch today that the owner is considering a model in which customers can purchase drinks while using iPads or some other mobile gadget that the shop will offer, but that isn't confirmed. For now, the tight space doesn't look that much different than what it looked like before.

"We're just specialize in gourmet drinks," she said.

For former frequenters of the previous shop, that's exactly what they want to hear. JavaTech serves Caffe D'arte coffee, a Seattle brand that's renown for producing award-winning, traditional Italian coffee.

The shop also offers energy infused smoothies, as well as some snacks. Eventually, the owner would like to expand to a full lunch menu, but that's still in the works, Dawson says.

Of course, JavaTech will offer something that former customers loved: car-hop service. Drivers can pull around to the car-hop sign, and a barista will walk outside to the take their order.
