Starbucks Starts to Emerge on Bridgeport Way

A drive-thru Starbucks will replace the old Shari's Restaurant on Bridgeport Way.

The lot formally known as Shari's off Bridgeport Way has been through quite the conversion lately, and a new building is starting to come together.

Starbucks will open in the space and will feature a drive-thru, confirmed Mariza Craig, assistant city manager for University Place.

The Starbucks in Green Firs, next door to Payless Shoes, will relocate to the new space, said Craig.

The new building also features two additional retail spaces but no tenants have been confirmed yet, Craig said. Calls to property owners at PMF Investments were not returned, but the company website advertises that retail space as available for rent.

To allow the Starbucks in this space, the University Place City Council voted to include drive-thrus within the property zoning where it was previously not allowed.

"The council wanted to be ensured that, in allowing the drive-thru, there will be connectivity between the street and building," said Craig.

Construction is bustling and the coffee shop is expected to open this fall.
