Frog n Kiwi Enjoying Successful "Soft" Opening

Owner Marc Grau told Patch today that even without much notice and a large children's play area, about 90 customers showed up on opening day Tuesday, and they came mostly for the lattes.

The Frog n Kiwi Cafe welcomed about 90 customers on its first day Tuesday.

Not bad, considering there was little notice to the public, save for Facebook and some word-of-mouth.

But what's even more significant is the reaction Frog n Kiwi has been getting from those customers, who say they love its cozy, warm spaces, its friendly service and its lattes.

The novelty of being didn't hurt either.

"We're really excited that our first day went really well, and our second day is going really well too," Grau told Patch today.

"So thank you," he added.

The much-anticipated children's playground area - which will offer coffee-and-smoothie-sipping parents a place where they can watch they kids play at $7 per three-hour increments - will open in a few weeks.

Grau said he and his wife didn't want to open the play area before it was ready (it still needs some carpeting and other finishing touches). Also, opening both the coffee shop and the play areas at the same time might have overwhelmed Frog n Kiwi's mom-and-pop staff.

"We opened with no announcement, and we're very happy the local community came by to support us," Grau said.
