Facebook Question: Should The City Allow New Drive-Through Businesses In The Town Center Area?

The city heard from a prominent developer last month, who argued that prohibiting drive-throughs hurt the community's chances of attracting business.

Should University Place allow drive-throughs in the Town Center area?

It's a hot topic in the city, as the Town Center development's first tenants prepare to open their doors this year. The city originally prohibited drive-throughs because it wanted the area - which stretches on Bridgeport Way West from 35th to 44th Streets West - to be friendly to pedestrians.

However, last month, officials heard from one prominent developer, Nat Franklin, about how the drive-through ban ultimately hurts development. He oversaw development of the Green Firs Village Shopping Center, where Trader Joe's, Safeway and El Toro Mexican restaurant are located.
