Click! Cable TV Customers Won't Have KOMO Beginning At Midnight

After negotiating for months, the utility says the Fisher Communications' rates are too high, and the two sides are still at an impasse. That means customers in Tacoma, University Place and other parts of Pierce County won't have Channel 4.

(Editor's note: I just got some bad news for Click! Cable TV customers. Read on)

After negotiating for months, Click! Cable TV and Fisher Communications have reached an impasse. Several stations, including KOMO TV, will not be available on Click! Cable TV, a publicly owned local cable provider, until it can reach an affordable agreement with the Seattle-based media giant.

“We have negotiated in good faith, but the increases they are asking for are not feasible for us or our customers,” said Click! Network Manager Tenzin Gyaltsen. “Fisher Communications saw significant revenue increases in 2012, yet it’s squeezing a small cable company by raising rates more than 200 percent in two years.”

Click! will continue to negotiate with Fisher Communications to try to achieve acceptable terms, in an effort to begin broadcasting the station again as soon as possible.

“This is a major inconvenience to our customers, and I’m sorry for that,” Gyaltsen said. “We need our customers to stick with us as we take a stand for their best interests.”

The following stations will not be available on Click!’s channel lineup at midnight:

  • KOMO, Channel 4
  • KOMO HD, Channel 504
  • KUNS, Channel 19
  • KUNS HD, Channel 519
  • This TV, Channel 173 (KOMO’s second digital channel)
  • MundoFox, Channel 90 (KUNS’s second digital channel)

Customers can watch many of the programs on these channels by streaming them on their computer, or can purchase a digital antenna to access the channels.

Losing KOMO?....no great loss, that...or any other BIG 3 stations for that matter.

Unfortunately, a lot areas of UP can't get the locals very well with an arial antenna. For those that do...why even bother with cable? Your digital over the air HD is better than cable or satellite, and you'd be shocked at how many channels there are. Plus, and most importantly, it's FREE!

Click! Network = Fail. First fail of the year, congrats Click! No specifics on what the increase translates into actuall dollars for we customers. Click! never asked my opinion. It's one channel. How much can that translate to? They only mention a 200% increase over the last two years. They say other channels have negotiated "fair" rate increases but again Click! doesn't give actual figures to lend relativity to the increases and "fairness".
So, now that I don't have a major network station readily and easily available, what will be the monthly discount to my bill? I'm not receiving the channels in the package I'm signed up for, so again, what is my discount? How about some answers and specifics Click!

It looks to be a David vs Goliath tangle. To take it down , possibly way to simple, isn't Fisher & Comcast under Disney, anyway? Without treading on too many toes...I like Click -I have Click and back it completely. I smell a cable rat-somewhere, at probably one that hassles me every time I say I have Click and won't change to their mega values of the month. (yes at one time I did have them)
I do hope the problem does get resolved, I like some shows on ABC. It's not Click's fail.

Will we be getting a discount for not receiving a channel we are paying for? Losing one of the three major channels is a pretty big deal.

I don't even have click but I have stopped watching komo/fisher stations because of this news. I have dish and an antenna. It's ridicules that komo would charge anything for a channel that is free over your antenna. Click has to invest money and time to receive komo and transport over their system plus they are contractually obligated to carry other fisher stations even if they have no interest in them. Then on top of it all fisher is increasing at an unreasonable rate and expect the cable companies to pass this on to their customers, with all the redundant local news who really needs komo that bad. I say get an antenna and help keep your cable bill low as possible

Always two sides to every argument. All i know is I still don't have a major network. Friday I'm going with Comcast. I will take as many other customers with me as I can . We're all done with the stalemate and small town politics.

LOL Randy..there are three businesses listed under `Optometry' (I had trouble with the font/style onRead More the red background of the categories). I am always amazed at the number of businesses I did not know about..I chuckled at the `puffing' on pages 5-8 - no need to go any further with re-branding..

You are lucky to have a man of Elmer's quality as part of your life! He is a true officer andRead More gentleman, who served his county by performing arduous tours of duty, several in a combat role. However, if I were to characterize Elmer with one word it would be "unselfish." Like you, I am lucky to have known Elmer and able to call him a friend. Howard

What a nice Father's Day wish to Elmer from his daughter. He and Linda are lucky parents.

I heard it, Patty. He isn't the only one to do so, either. We need to be on a crusade to help thoseRead More national media types get the actual host city correct.

On TV yesterday a "man on the street" said the US Open would be good for SEATTLE andRead More Tacoma!!! Yes, our work is cut out for us getting people to say University Place, even "near Tacoma" would be okay. Over a year ago, I wrote to a magazine requesting they use the correct city for Chambers Bay because they said it was in Tacoma. Every time we hear someone in the media say "those other cities' names", we must write/text/email them and set them straight. They probably don't know about UP.

<<another mom>> How would I go about finding out if the other driver was issued aRead More citation/ticket? His insurance company is pretty adamant about closing the deal. I'm under the assumption HIS insurance company would have those details?
another mom May 30, 2013 at 06:12 pm
Call UP police, ask. That's when we found out. I wouldn't be too eager to close, either. Even thoughRead More our car was totaled, insurance paid us only 1/2 the replacement value (we'd found an identical car). The fact that the deputy didn't cite the other driver (even though there were witnesses that stated that person was breaking the law and entirely responsible) did affect our claim, and we're still suffering as a result. Good luck.
Christie Anderson May 30, 2013 at 10:11 pm
Cedar....Never close straight away with the insurance company. I figure if they are anxious to closeRead More their client was cited, lol.
