Cheers West Undergoing “Complete Makeover”

The popular sports bar on 27th Street West is scheduled to reopen for business on August 1, according to the new manager.

Fans of Cheers West will see a whole new sports bar this summer, when Cheers West reopens under new management, with a new staff and fresh look.

Patch spoke to Ali Mehdizadehkashi, the new manager of Cheers West, who decided to relaunch the popular sports bar when the former management decided not to renew their lease in University Place. He owns the property and didn't want to see an empty storefront, he said. Plus, he runs three other Cheers franchise bars, so he knew he could manage the bar.

"[Cheers West] is definitely going through a complete makeover, within it's structure, but we remain the same as other Cheers locations--a family-friendly bar and grill," said Mehdizadehkashi.

He added that in addition to new paint and furniture, the bar will feature new TVs, a dart machine, pool tables and jukebox. He's also interested in expanding to include a private dining area for banquets and parties. Mehdizadehkashi said Cheers West will look most like the downtown Tacoma location, on Pacific Avenue.

Mehdizadehkashi said that Cheers West will host a hiring event on July 15 for all positions, which he plans to advertise. Cheers West's former employees will have to apply just like everyone else, he said--the staff was let go by the old management but encouraged to reapply in the summer.
