Resource Awareness /Academic Support:

AISPEC is aware of the vast amount of resources available to youth in the Tacoma area regarding education, health and wellness, food and shelter, and career and personal development. As such, this organization aims to promote the awareness and utilization of these resources by its youth members. In order to do so, a resource database will be made available (both in print and digitally) to youth members at AISPEC’s facility. AISPEC will also work with organizations offering relevant resources to develop future strategies which will serve to further the goals of AISPEC and participating organizations. Additionally, a majority of the organization’s staff and volunteers will be highly knowledgeable about this database, supportive, and sensitive to confidentiality concerns. Ideally, select team members will undergo training related to navigating such circumstances effectively and appropriately, in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all AISPEC’s members.

AISPEC is dedicated to helping young people realize their educational goals by providing academic support services, which promote confidence, performance, and a value for life-long learning. Academic support services will consist of targeted tutoring and individualized mentorship, graduation/benchmark test preparation and GED completion with continuing support. Academic programming will be offered at no cost to youth members, and will be used as one way to earn them skate time at AISPEC’s facility.
