The vision of an Indoor Skate Park & Education Center (part 1 of 4)

Alchemy Indoor Skate Park & Education Center (AiSPEC)

AISPEC intends to offer an indoor skate park and a community space as a central pillar of its programming. The indoor skate park and the community space will provide local youth with a safe place and a variety of constructive activities with which to engage in during their free time. Additionally, the indoor park and community space will demonstrate the innovative and entrepreneurial drive of AISPEC and its members to repurpose and revitalize unused city space. AISPEC’s members will be encouraged to participate in the design, construction, and maintenance of the indoor skate park and community space to the fullest extent feasible. This level of participation will promote among youth members the perception of acceptance, ownership, and pride, while harnessing the incredible creativity and innovation of the younger generations.

The community space constitutes all of AISPEC property including but not limited to the skatepark. It will be versatile by design, with the capacity to serve not only as AISPEC’s main operating facility, comprised of offices, class-rooms, and computer labs, but also as a community meeting space, event hall, and music venue. The indoor skate park will be fluid in its design so as to encourage periodic variations and additions in its physical layout that accommodate a variety of skate styles and activities.

Use of the skate park will not be free to AISPEC members or members of the greater community. AISPEC members’ access to the park will be dependent upon their utilization of academic support resources, community service, skate mentorship, and progress towards meeting personal goals. Non-members may use the park in exchange for a small donation. All park users, regardless of membership status, will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to use.
