Rewarding Season For Curtis High Flutist

Torsen Necessary's musical career springs ahead with recent local and state honors. He performs this Sunday at the University of Puget Sound.

If Torsen Necessary keeps a diary, 2011 should make an exciting read someday.

He  just won first place in the Senior Division of the Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Competition, sponsored by Tacoma Philharmonic. Necessary and five other young winners will be featured soloists during a special recital held in their honor at Schneebeck Hall on the University of Puget Sound campus 7 p.m., this Sunday.

"One of the things I like about the Beatrice Herrmann Competition," Necessary said, "is that I'm not just competing against other flute players, but against a variety of orchestral instruments. The variety makes this competition both challenging and a lot of fun!"

What the future brings for this talented flutist remains to be seen, but he will surely continue to make his family, school, and community proud. Before he hits the world's stages, you might want to take the opportunity to hear Necessary, and five other equally dedicated winners,  at this Sunday's recital.

Tickets, which cost $10, can be purchased by calling Beatrice Herrmann Competition Coordinator Cindy Renander at 253-882-5955.
