What better way is there to herald in the spirit of Halloween than to enjoy the
story of America’s beloved writer Edgar Allan Poe?

UP for Art presents Edgar Allan Poe: The Poet’s Journey to be performed alongside a display featuring artists: Helen Hein and Anne Doumit Sparks at the University Place Civic/Library atrium on Friday, Oct. 28, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The atrium is located at 3609 Market Square just off of Bridgeport Way. Admission to the performance and art display are free; however, donations are appreciated.

The featured story of Edgar Allan Poe follows the famous poet on a quest to start
his own publication to elevate American literature only months before his death.
Audience members will have the rare opportunity to glimpse into the life of Poe and learn about America’s early literary history. This one man show is performed by Tim Hoban who portrays Poe while engaging audience members and reciting from the poet’s greatest works. The actor has spent the year touring the Pacific Northwest to bring his act to schools and fans of literature. Edgar Allan Poe: The Poet’s Journey was first unveiled in the town of McCleary, Washington in 1998 from the mind of writer Bryan Willis. Willis is known for his writing of the critically acclaimed play Sophie, and has had many of his plays performed throughout the Pacific Northwest as well as locations in Chicago and New York.

Continuing the theme of Northwest creativity is an opportunity to view quilting
and fabric arts “Northwest Heirlooms: Folklore and Fiber”. Artists Helen Hein and Anne Doumit Sparks keep the traditions and changes of the Northwest alive with their textile exhibit. Combining the inspirations taken from nature’s exquisite beauty and the area’s natural resources, these two ladies have created a collection blooming with color and the pioneer spirit that can only be found in the Pacific Northwest.
