VIEWFINDER: Kite-Flying Becomes An Art Near Chambers Bay Golf Course

Members of the Pierce County Kitefliers Association turned the sky above University Place into a ballet stage Saturday.

Dozens of enthusiasts from young to old sent brightly colored kites skittering across the sky near Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place on Saturday.

Sponsored by the Pierce County Kitefliers Association, the event featured stunt flying, "how-to demonstrations" and an aerial kite ballet. A "mass kite ascension" capped the day.

The Pierce County Kitefliers Association is a group of enthusiasts who host "fun flys" all around the Pacific Northwest.Β  Members also help with "kite building for kids" projects and organize exhibits.
