Although Lady Gaga's show is tonight in Tacoma, she already had some fans screaming over the weekend in University Place.

Those excited cheers were coming from Peace Out, the UP-based youth service group. University Place Patch Facebook user Michelle posted the following on our page:

BRENT!!! OMG we are freaking out here at PEACE OUT!! Peace Out was found and contacted by LADY GAGAs PEOPLE!!! WE are the only Tacoma organization invited to be a FRONTLINE partner of the Born Brave Bus Tour on Monday! Pretty cool considering there are so many amazing and deserving local programs serving our youth!! WHOO HOOOO!!

That's huge news for the group, which will serve as youth service representative at the show. Her foundation - the Born This Way Foundation - is dedicated to creating a safe community where individuality is celebrated by connecting youth with the skills, resources and opportunities they need to build a braver, kinder world, according to Peace Out.

The next obvious question: Who gets to go?

Well, in diplomatic, Peace Out fashion, the group conducted a random drawing. It put the names of all of its students who are in their second Peace Out program in a hat and drew the following students:

  • Zoe Ferguson
  • Emma Schumacher
  • Ceciley Weinman
  • Alexandra Sampson
  • Taylor Burkhart
  • Andrew Bugal

"We are proud to say that each one of these students have over 100 community service hours with Peace Out," the group wrote on its page.

What a cool honor for a great group! You all deserve every bit of recognition for your efforts. And Lady Gaga? OMG.

We learned about this through our Facebook page. Be sure to "Like" us!

And don’t forget to ask for Gaga’s (I almost said ‘Lady’) autograph on a picture of herself nude from the waist down - a black-and-white photo of herself that accompanied the release of her album “Born That Way.” More: http://lakewood-jblm.patch.com/blog_posts/anti-gay-was-so-yesterday

We probably won't ask for that Pastor David! We do hope to thank Lady Gaga and her mother for founding the born Brave Bus, dedicated to creating a kinder world :)

While you’re at it, thank GaGa for being such a great role model for youth, along the lines of what Randall Roberts of the Los Angeles Times said: Gaga is “unsubtle in her message (and) unsubtle in her dress”. More: http://lakewood-jblm.patch.com/blog_posts/graphic-material-for-a-new-school-year

I don't think it matters if Lady Gaga had a photo with we pants off, totally nude, or fully clothed... Who cares? What DOES matter is she is doing AMAZING things, spreading LOVE, ACCEPTANCE, and PEACE.

David, I'm not a fan of lady Gaga, but you should probably stop raining on Peace out's parade. If you think about it, Peace out actually is doing what most Christians should do. Maybe you should donate some of your time and see what great people they are. In my opinion.

Integrity, Dr. Oland, is what’s at stake. Integrity, wrote Stephen L. Carter, the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of law at Yale University, in a book by that title, “comes from the same Latin root as integer (conveying) the sense of wholeness, undivided, completeness”. Gaga invited Peace Out to “be the youth representative at the show.” The show is led by someone whose actions – in many ways as I’ve written – lack integrity and bring disrepute on the stated objectives of Peace Out. We live in a post-Newtown-bloodbath world and Gaga will appear this summer in a blood-bath of a movie, rated ‘X’ for violence. Peace Out is ok with that? Gaga is “unsubtle in message and dress” but Peace Out can look the other way? By attending the Gaga event, Peace Out attached all the good it does – as if a trailer to Gaga’s bus – and thus became “representative” of a messenger and message that are disparate at best. Peace Out was used and would have had far greater impact by declining to represent Gaga. “Youth need champions and they learn to be champions through example.” (Tony Robinson, Champions for Youth, Breakfast, March 2011). Gaga is not a champion for youth any more than cycling star Lance Armstrong who did a lot of good raising money for cancer but will this week admit to doping during his storied career. When people lack integrity to get caught up in the hoopla is to have sacrificed your own.
