University Place Library Will Be Busy The Next Few Weeks

A used book sale, an author's signing and a party to celebrate the new children's learning area highlight what will be an event-filled few weeks at UP's community gathering place.

The has big plans the next few weeks.

The library at Town Center will feature trio of events that will help highlight the new library's first full summer:

Used Book Sale

10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday

Find out what's happening in University Placewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

First, users will be able to find some book bargains and other great deals at the sale organized by the Friends of the University Place Library group. Residents donated used books, CDs and DVDs for the sale. Funds from the sale will help the Friends sponsor events for children and adults as well as furnishings and other needs at the library.

 

Meet author Erica Bauermeister

7 p.m., Aug. 4

Internationally best-selling author and local resident Erica Bauermeister will talk about her new novel, “Joy for Beginners.” Copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of King’s Books of Tacoma. The Friends of the University Place Library are sponsoring this free event.

 

Pepsi Party: Celebrate the new Children's Learning Area

2:30 p.m., Aug. 6

Members of the community are invited to celebrate new additions to the University Place Library children’s area purchased through funds from the Pepsi Refresh project. The University Place Library Campaign won $25,000 by competing with other volunteer projects throughout the nation in the Refresh Pepsi Project voting competition. Community supporters participated in the project by voting online for the Library Campaign. Funds from the University Place Library Campaign helped create a fun space for the youngest learners.

The early learning area includes interactive play and learning panels, flexible furnishings that incorporate letters, colors and shapes and books. Pierce County Library Foundation and Pepsi sponsor this free event, and will provide refreshments and prizes.
