The List: Spots To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

This week, in honor of St. Paddy's Day, The List tackles things in and around University Place that you can do to get your green on!

St. Patrick's Day is about more than just wearing green and drinking beer.

There's St. Paddy's and Irish flair of all kinds in and around town. Here's a wee list intended to help you map out your celebrations Thursday.

Just don't forget to wear green.

Why here: Here's a great way to celebrate with the kids. The Fircrest skating rink is offering a special St. Patrick's Day skate from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors who wear a green shirt get a free green glowstick, and the "greenest" person gets a free, one-month pass. Best part: admission is only $6.

3. Trader Joe's and  Metropolitan Market

Why here: If you don't want to go to a pub or restaurants for traditional Irish food fare (corned beef and cabbage, anyone?), try doing it yourself. University Place's has a great selection of corned beef and cabbage, and Proctor's Metropolitan Market in Tacoma takes it further with special Irish soda, bread and imported cheeses.

4. The Harp and Shamrock, Fine Irish Imports, Proctor District

Why here: This Proctor business mainstay has been selling Celtic
products locally since 1976. Check out this store for all your
traditional Irish goods.

5. Evolution Dance at Freighthouse Square in Tacoma

Why here: Take your Irish jig to new heights and learn about Irish Dance at Evolution Dance! Click on the link for more details.

6. Pump it Up, Tacoma

Why here: Take your wee leprechauns to Pump It Up in Tacoma for an Irish-style good time of St. Paddy's day fun, crafts, and treats. Click on the link above for more details and prices.

Erin Go Bragh, everyone! Happy St. Paddy's Day!
