The List: Get Into The Swim

Splish Splash! Grab your suit, googles, towel, and sunscreen, 'cause Patch is going swimming.

What? Was that golden orb in the sky actually the sun? Really?

Our sunshine might have temporary and fleeting moments, but when it does come a-callin', we listen.

And then we daydream about summer. There's nothing more fun, relaxing, and refreshing than hitting a cool pool on a hot day. Lucky for us, we have swimming pools all around us to take advantage of as a community.

It features open swim times, family swim sessions, swim lessons, and a swim team. Please click on the link above to see hours of operation and rates (note: Fircrest residents get a price break; proof of residency required).  Special notes for families: Adjacent to the big pool, is a heated wading pool for the wees ones. There is no charge for this attraction. Please be sure to note the hours set aside for Fircrest residents only.

2. Titlow outdoor pool  (Tacoma, next to Titlow Park, minutes from University Place)

Why here: This longtime, amazing pool sits amongst beautiful Titlow Park. The pool opens June 18. It offers a variety of swimming lessons for all ages and abilities. There are also open swims available for playing in the pool. Please see the link above for hours and rates.

3. Stewart Heights Outdoor Pool and Water Playground (Tacoma)

Why here: This local and exciting outdoor pool venue is a must for the kiddos (and adults who want to play, too). Opening June 18, this facility offers a 160 foot water slide, a water playground, tumbling buckets of water, a lazy river, bubble pool and water basketball.  There's also concessions to whet your appetite. Special note to dog lovers: in September, you are allowed to bring your dog for water play. Yes, really! This really is a great place for the whole family including Fido! See above link for all the details.

4. Tacoma Metro Parks Wading Pools (Tacoma)

Why here: Perfect for the little ones, and refreshing for you if you want to just cool off,  just a little. Tacoma Metro Parks offer free wading pools around town. Open afternoons beginning June 20th, bring the kids for some splashing fun. Using the link above, check out the free spray parks that blast your kid (or yourself!) into crazy water fun. The website will give the locations and hours. Don't miss out!

5. Local high schools indoor pools (locations varied)

Why here: Okay folks. Truth time. We know our summer days won't be perfect (yes, I know, break out the tissue please). Yet, we can still swim anyway over the summer in a great indoor pool at the local high schools. Curtis High School's pool is under renovation for the summer.  However, check out Gig Harbor, Tacoma , and Lakewood area high schools for more info. Just simply click on the links right before, and you are there. Lessons, open swims, lap swims and more!

We will get to summertime, Patch readers. Happy splashing everyone!
