It seemed like summer got here and is now starting to fade. But fall doesn't have to be dull or miserable. Starting today, Patch is going to tackle all things autumn. Leaf piles, here we come!

We know you are not quite ready to pack away those beach umbrellas, stash the sunscreen, put down the barbeque spatula or retire the flip flops.

Yet, autumn is getting ready for us and it's coming fast. So fast, in fact, that if you think about it, it's a week in counting, really.

Fall Free For All (Tacoma)

Why here: During the weekend of October 8th and 9th, Tacoma comes alive with an arts festival that is sure to please. At different locations around the city, patrons get a taste of theater, performance, the arts, music, and film. All for the low price of FREE! Some of the venues include the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, The Grand Cinema, and other locations throughout Tacoma's theater district. Click on the link above for more details and times. Fall Tree Festival (Tacoma)

Why here: On Oct. 15, watch historic Wright Park turn into an autumn and leafy wonderful as this beautiful park celebrates the turning of the leaves. During the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., kids can adventurously climb trees (while being safe and supervised under the watchful eye of the pros), do leaf art, and participate in a scavenger hunt! This is a FREE event and all activities are at no cost. Oh, and don't forget to take your camera to capture the gorgeous fall leaves. See the link above for more details.

 

Gig Harbor Quilt Festival (Gig Harbor)

Why here: It's fall and you are going to be chilly, right? What better way to warm up than with a cozy and comfy quilt (and support a great cause to boot)? The Gig Harbor Quilt Festival runs on Oct. 15-16 in the city and offers a quiliting invitational, sewing lessons, silent auction, a yummy luncheon, and so much more. This festival, now in it's 10th year, raises funds and awareness to fight breast cancer. Lakewood International Festival (Lakewood)

Why here: On Sept. 24 beginning at 11:30 a.m., the Lakewood Sister Cities Association offers an international mix of festival fun that includes great food, children's activities, performances and prizes. This festival celebrates the relationship with Lakewood's diversity and sister cities and friendship cities internationally (with cities in Japan, Korea, The Phillippines, and China). A great local event to learn and explore other cultures and traditions. This event is free to the public, however, donations are always welcome and appreciated. 7th Annual Oktoberfest Northwest (Puyallup)

Why here: Fall isn't really fall unless you have a true Oktoberfest thrown in the mix and this one is a big yeah. For a little bit further drive in Puyallup (Fair and Events Center), you can listent to lively tunes, see wiener dog races, participate in the family fest, get hearty and warm good eats, and lift a pint or two.
