Should Pierce Transit Approve More Service Cuts?

The Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners will vote on whether the agency should reduce its annual service hours by 28 percent on Monday.

The Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners will be voting on the service reduction plan at their monthly board meeting at 4 p.m. on Monday.

In May, the Board voted to reduce 84 staff positions and proposed a plan to cut annual service hours by 28 percent. If approved Monday, it would affect more than 20,000 daily bus commuters, according to KING 5

How will the cuts impact your daily commute? Tell us in the comments below.

The cuts are effective Sept. 28, 2013.

The service reductions come after more than 100,000 Pierce County voters rejected Proposition 1 in the general election in November, which would have increased local sales taxes by 0.3 percent.

The Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners will also hold a Special Meeting/Study Session at 3 p.m. on Monday. The Board will review and discuss a proposed fare study and to receive a Legislative Update.

The meetings will be held in the Rainier Room of the Training Center Building, located at 3720 96th St. SW in Lakewood.
