Pierce County Says Boat Owners Can Renew Tabs Online

With boating season at our shores, officials warn boaters not to get caught without their tabs.

Taking the boat out for the holiday weekend? Well, Pierce County reminds you not to get caught with expired tabs.

All Washington state boat registration decals expire on Thursday.

But don't expect to get a reminder notice in the mail. The Department of Licensing stopped mailing renewal notices last year.

"We're urging our Pierce County customers to sign up for email reminders at www.dol.wa.gov,"says Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson. "While you are there, you can renew online. It's fast and easy."

She says that if owners want to renew in person, they can do so by visiting the Auditor's Office. Mid-week mornings offer shorter wait times.

Officials advise owners to be prepared. Boat owners should bring the vessel's registration number and valid identification when they renew.

Boat registrations can be renewed online and in person at the Auditor's Office or at any vehicle licensing sub-agency. Visit the Auditor's website - www.piercecountywa.org/auditor - for locations and hours.

The Pierce County Auditor's Office is responsible for conducting elections, licensing services, maintaining and preserving a variety of public records and animal control services.
