Oh Yeah. Mother Nature Forgot About the Wind

The National Weather Service in Seattle issued an overnight wind advisory for the South Sound.

First there was snow. Then ice. Flooding is bound to join in.

Oh yeah. Mother Nature forgot an ingredient in this winter storm mix.

Wind.

Pierce County issued the following message within the last half-hour warning of high winds:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED A WIND
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 10 AM SATURDAY.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS INCLUDE EVERETT, SEATTLE, TACOMA, AND OLYMPIA.

* TIMING...SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE AHEAD OF THE FRONT THIS EVENING. THE WIND WILL SHIFT TO SOUTHWESTERLY BEHIND THE FRONT.

* WIND...SOUTHERLY WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH WILL DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT AND CONTINUE SATURDAY MORNING.

* IMPACTS...GUSTY WINDS MAY SNAP TREE BRANCHES AND CAUSE LOCAL POWER OUTAGES. AREAS WITH TREE AND LIMB DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE ICE STORM MAY SEE NUMEROUS ADDITIONAL FALLING LIMBS. BEWARE SNAGS WHICH ARE LIKELY TO FALL WHEN THE WIND INCREASES OVERNIGHT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 TO 39 MPH OR GUSTS OF 45 TO 57 MPH ARE LIKELY.
