UPDATE: Snow Possible Thursday And Friday

The National Weather Service says UP could get a dusting of snow following a storm system that could bring wind and hail.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service now forecasts that snow could hit University Place on Thursday night and Friday morning.

According to the NWS website:

Thursday Night:Β A chance of rain showers before 4am, then a chance of snow showers. Snow level 900 feet lowering to 300 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.Β 

Friday:Β A chance of snow showers before 10am, then a chance of rain showers between 10am and 4pm. Snow level rising to 1100 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

The Pierce County Alert System issued the following message today regarding thunderstorms in the region:

"The National Weather Service has notified us that strong thunderstorms are possible across Pierce County today. Rotating thunderstorms may produce cold air funnel clouds, small hail and gusts to 45 mph. The cold and unstable air will continue through this evening. Pierce County will continue to monitor the situation and will send updates as necessary as more information is received."

This came on the heels of the storm Monday, in which parts of the region lost power due to heavy winds and down trees.
