MOMS TALK: Bus Stop Mishaps

UP Patch mom and blogger, Rachel Lauzon, discusses transportation issues for parents with children riding school buses.

Being a parent comes with a bag of “worst fears” scenarios, and recently I’ve read about a kindergartener being dropped off the bus at wrong bus stop and another parent finding the wandering child.

I’ve had that questioning moment of “where is my son.”

Unfortunately for children in my neighborhood, they ride one bus in the morning and a different bus in the afternoon. They are getting off at the same stop, but the bus numbers and bus drivers change.

Trying to remind your child of this very important fact is daunting as it is, but given the fact my son is 6-years-old, only adds to the worry factor.

The first day of school, I waited patiently at my son’s bus stop waiting for him to come home excited to hear about his first day of school. The bus arrived, and my son wasn’t on the bus. The bus driver called around and found my son on another bus, and told me the bus would meet me at the school to pick him up after they dropped off the other students.

The second day of school, my neighbor’s son, boarded the wrong bus in the afternoon also, and transportation put him on a little bus and dropped him off at his front door.

Luckily for us, they could locate both of our sons, but what happens when they can’t?
