Junk In The Trunk Is Perfect Way To Dispose Of Stuff

The event is scheduled for May 21 in the parking lot of Narrows Plaza Bowl.

This column is being written as I return from a week of skiing in the Dolomite Mountains of Italy.  This was the 11th year that I have had the opportunity to ski in this beautiful part of the Italian Tyrol.

However, the weather was the worst I have experienced in all my visits there.  It was only sunny one day of the six we skied. Normally deep blue skies are the norm. In fact, in over 60 ski days there was only one other day was cloudy and snowing!  I understand that we have been experiencing similar weather in UP with powder alerts at Crystal Mountain almost every day.

On the more local, less snowier side of things, the second annual “Junk in the Trunk” fund-raiser for the UP Senior Center is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 at  parking lot, 2200 Mildred Street SW.  The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with check in beginning at 7:30 a.m. that morning.

This is a great way to sell some of the things that you have wanted to but never had time or enough items to have a full-blown yard/garage sale.  Alternatively, maybe there are things that you really want to be rid of, but there never was an event that allowed you to do so. Then this event is for you.

My son, who has moved to Canada, last year used this event to sell items he wasn’t going to take with him. He scheduled his move after the event, cleaned out his storage locker that weekend then after the event loaded the remaining items in his truck and drove to Canada that Monday.  He felt it was a wonderful way to dispose of the items. It also helped defray the cost of the rental truck.

For $25, you get two spaces in their big parking lot. One for your “junk” and one to park your car..

To reserve a space, call the Senior Center @253 564-1992.  You get to keep all that you sell and the $25 fee for the space helps the Senior Center.
