Western Washington is in for a wet and windy Friday, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible in some areas.
Heavy rain is also expected throughout the region, and sustained winds of 14 to 18 mph are expected in UP. (See complete local forecast here.)

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the Western Washington area, including a Winter Storm Watch for the mountains, where 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow is expected to fall by Saturday morning. Backcountry travel is not recommended during this time, due to avalanche danger.
Things are expected to calm down for the weekend. In UP, the Saturday forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of precipitation wtih a south-southwest wind of 6 to 13 mph.
