Here's what's in store this week for you and your little (or big) ones.

And that's just a bit of what's going on for the family this weekend. Patch has compiled some activities that will keep your family busy, active and, most importantly, having fun.

When/Where: 3 p.m., Saturday at the .

Why Go: You can join a conversation with local author Claire Dederer as she discusses her new book, “Poser: My Life in Twenty-Three Yoga Poses.” Her writings as memoirist, essayist, reporter and critic have appeared in The Nation, Vogue, Slate, Salon, Real Simple, The New York Times and other newspapers across the country. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of King’s Books.

Price: Free.

 

When/Where: 5:40 p.m. - 6:25 p.m., Thursdays at Sehmel Homestead Park.

Why Go: Soccer players from 7 to 10 years of age can work on the true finesse of the beautiful game with drills and small scrimmages as parents watch and cheer them on. All skill levels are welcome.

Price: $62.

 

When/Where: 10 a.m. - noon, Saturday at the Curious By Nature School.

Why Go: It's a different kind of "fun" for the family. Those residing in the region can do a walk thru and see what this new Pre-K academic institute is all about. Think education that focuses on nature based curriculum and outdoor exploration.

Price: Free.

 

Elmo's Healthy Heroes!

When/Where: 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m., 7 p.m., today at the Tacoma Dome.

Why Go: A live Sesame Street stage show featuring Elmo and his friends teaching some classic values that we expect from our muppet friends.

Price: $11 to $55.

 

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs

When/Where: 10 a.m. Saturday at Grand Cinema Theater.

Why Go: Free screening of a family favorite like "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs," courtesy of Click Cable. It's a free visit to the movies. (Isn't that reason enough?)

Price: Free.

 

Third Thursday Tacoma ArtWalk

When/Where: All day Thursday throughout Tacoma galleries, museums and boutiques.

Why Go: It's best to check the site for participating venues as there is so much to do throughout the city. The Art Bus can take you to visit several of the venues, while the museums have discounted admissions.

Price: Free.
