UPDATE: JBLM Air Expo Shuttle Service Dropped At Two Locations

Organizers are still offering four free, off-base shuttle locations from which visitors can ride to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. University Place residents can catch a bus from Cheney Stadium, and Lakewood Town Center, among other spots.

I just was contacted from Joint Base Lewis-McChord's Public Affairs Office, which said that two of the locations for its free shuttle service to the Air Expo have been dropped.

The shuttle service from the following two locations have been dropped for this weekend's event:

  • Lakewood Sounder Station – 47th Ave SW & Pacific Hwy S, Lakewood.
  • South Hill Sound Transit Park-and-Ride – 3102 9th St. SW, Puyallup.

JBLM didn't say exactly why the locations were dropped, only that it apologizes for any inconveniences.

Beat the crowd to the this Saturday and Sunday.  Use one of six convenient, free off-base shuttle locations.

Ride a yellow “First Student” bus to and from the Air Expo for free.  Buses get priority access onto the base and through the gates of the Air Expo – The following locations are pickup and drop off points:

  • Cheney Stadium parking lot – 2502 S. Tyler St. Tacoma.
  • Lakewood Towne Center, (Behind Target) – 5618 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd SW, Lakewood.
  • *Pierce Transit SR 512 Park-and-Ride – 10617 S. Tacoma Way, Tacoma. *Handicap accessible location
  • Pierce Transit Tacoma Dome Station – 610 Puyallup Ave. E, Tacoma.

 

More bus information

  • Each person 16 years old and older must have photo ID to board the bus.
  • Buses start at 9 a.m. from above locations and depart about every 30 minutes, until about 2 p.m.
  • Buses will drop off visitors near the western Entry Control Point on base.
  • Return trip: busses pick up visitors near the western Entry Control Point and return them to their specific parking location – buses will be clearly marked. Last bus leaves the Air Expo at 5 p.m.



Security requirements and procedures for entry to Air Expo

  • All visitors 16 years and older must have a picture ID for proof of identity.
  • Everyone is subject to search and will proceed through security checkpoints, will be searched using hand-held metal detectors and have their hand-carried items inspected.
  • Security Forces and Military Police have the authority to turn anyone away who refuses to consent to a search

 

Items prohibited from being brought to Air Expo include, but not limited to:

  • Any item that could be used as a weapon: knives (of any size), firearms, scissors, pepper spray/mace, fireworks etc.
  • JBLM-McChord Field does not recognize any Concealed Weapons Permits (CWP)
  • Pets (Exception: Military Working Dogs and Medical Service Dogs with harness and valid paperwork). Pets will not be left unattended in or out of vehicles on JBLM.
  • Coolers, cans or liquids (exception: water in clear plastic bottles is allowed).
  • Backpacks, camel-baks, duffle bags, tote bags, brief cases or excessively large sized bags: (exceptions:  medication, oxygen tanks, diaper bags and camera bags).
  • Large lawn chairs (small folding chairs are allowed but must be out of bags and searched)
