Frugal Family: Great Buys For Parents

Patch scours the South Sound to help find deals that can save parents a buck or two.

These days, we’re all watching every dollar. From coupons to Craigslist, local families are taking advantage of a variety of deals to stretch their budgets even further.

This weekly column is dedicated to giving you five great local deals each week that will help your family save money, and, since we are doing the legwork for you, save time, too.

Your guide for this low-cost journey is a self-proclaimed coupon queen who can empty the Baby Gap’s sales racks and the cereal aisle at Safeway for mere dollars.

1. Taco Del Mar
The deal: Kids under 12 eat free on Sundays with the purchase of one adult entrée per child. Options include quesadilla, bean-and cheese burrito, chips and queso, taco or rice and beans. All kids’ meals come with a drink.
Good through: Ongoing.

2. Michaels
The deal: Get 50 percent off one regular-price item on Friday with this coupon. A great opportunity to pick up items for spring crafts or Mother’s Day projects. Exclusions apply, including Cricut products and custom floral orders.
Good through: April 22 only.

3. Old Navy
The deal: Snag short-sleeved polo shirts for the whole family for $6 each during this deal of the day. Limit five per customer; in-store only. Facebook users can stack this coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase (if you are buying other items) for an even better deal.
Good through: April 23 only.

4. Party City
The deal: Get 20 percent off all purchases of $50 or more with this coupon. This rare deal is a great way to save a few dollars on goods for birthday or graduation parties, from plates and napkins in countless colors to party favors and piñatas.
Good through: April 30.

5. Target
The deal: Get Similac Sensitive Infant Formula for $3.86 a 1-quart bottle (usually at least $6) during this regional price cut. If you held onto the $5 coupon from the April 3 SmartSource insert in the Sunday paper, you can get one bottle free. This is an outstanding stock-up price on formula. Target will issue rain checks in the event that it is out of stock; there were very few bottles left at the Lakewood store on Monday evening.
Good through: July 2.
