Flood Watch In Effect For Parts of Western Washington

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Pierce, Thurston, King Snohomish and Lewis Counties.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch Pierce County and other parts of Puget Sound that will last through this afternoon.

The Puyallup River Valley and other low-lying areas could see the most flooding.

"Precipitation totals over the west slops of the Central Cascades for the storm tanged generally from 3 to over 9 inches," according to the NWS. "Precipitation amounts over the North Cascades and Olympics have been less ... The snow level has lowered to around 3,000 ft range."

"The upper reaches of rives have crested, but the lower reaches are still rising. Operations on certain dams could also affect river flows below them so the watch remains in effect."

It's unlikely that University Place, in particular will face major flooding. Here is the forecast for the next week, according to the NWS:

Friday Night: Showers, mainly before 10pm. Low around 39. South southwest wind between 8 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Saturday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Sunday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Monday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 44.

Monday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33.

Tuesday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43.

Wednesday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
