Cheaper-By-The-Mile Movie Theaters

Sometimes it's worth your buck to drive a little further to get the best deal in town, or in this case out of town. Here are two different options for the local movie critic that can save money.

Normally I wouldn’t promote driving 20 to 30 minutes to see a movie, but sometimes spending the gas money is still cheaper than paying full price for a local flick.

Currently, our area has two options that are steals when compared to the normal walk-in theater option.

The first choice, $2 movies at Starplex Cinema located in Federal Way.

If you aren’t a Twihard dying to stand in line at midnight to see the latest vampire flick, then this option may be for you.

Movies here are not the new releases you get every Friday, but they are those same movies just released a few weeks after the main opening.

You’ll have the same movie-going experience with expensive popcorn and drinks, a big screen and that one person that decides texting is more important than watching the movie, but here you’ll only pay $2, or $1 on Tuesdays.

Plus, you’ll even have the opportunity to watch 3-D movies for a slight increase in price, usually $4.

At that price you can watch two movies and still be under the ticket price at a normal theater.

The second choice is the drive-in movies.

Valley 6 Drive-in has been a long-time favorite of mine and on those warm summer nights, it’s the perfect place to be.

Located in Kent, it’s about a 30 minute drive from University Place, and offers the nostalgia of yesteryear, but without the poodle skirt and sweet, classic cars.

Unfortunately, the prices are becoming more expensive every year, but this movie adventure offers perks.

Double-features for every screen, so you’ll pay one price for two movies.

The opportunity to wear your pajamas is the next.

Many people who attend the drive-ins sport the latest sleepwear and who doesn’t love getting comfy and watching a great movie? Plus here, the movies are released the same time they are released in the walk-ins.

You’ll still be able to buy popcorn, pizza and even play your favorite arcade game here as well.

Find a friend with a pickup truck, grab the blankets, your pooch, and call your friends because no matter how old you are, the drive-ins are still a favorite of many.

The season for Valley 6 Drive-in starts this Friday, April 15.

Here's the rundown on prices:

     Adults (ages 16-59)- $9

     Juniors (ages 12-15) & Seniors (60+)- $5.50

     Children (ages 5-11)- $2

     Children under 5 are free.
