Chambers Bay US Open Kicks Off 2 Years From Thursday

Experts say the 2015 U.S. Open will have a $144 million impact on the region, with corporate hospitality bringing in one-third of that revenue.

In just 2 years from Thursday, more than 235,000 visitors are anticipate to descend on University Place for the 2015 U.S. Open.

University Place city staff and Chief Mike Blair are at the Merion Golf Club event in Ardmore, Pennsylvania this week to study the U.S. Open in action.

Experts say the 2015 U.S. Open will have a $144 million impact on the region, with corporate hospitality bringing in one-third of that revenue.

During the week-long event, University Place will reap the rewards of merchandise sales, food stands or any other U.S. Open-related amenity that could generate sales tax dollars.

Last month, USGA Deputy Executive Director Kevin Phelps told the Lakewood City Council that his group has booked virtually all the surrounding hotels for the event. In January 2014, the USGA plans to start looping in local volunteers.
