Catch Bizet's Carmen At Tacoma Community College Saturday

Here's a chance to listen to classical, family friendly classical music uber-locally.

Every so often we are treated with the divine opportunity to listen to live music for free.

Even rarer, it seems, is the opportunity to indulge in orchestral classics for free.

On Saturday, Tacoma Community College is giving orchestra enthusiasts the chance to do so with its music department's rendition of Bizet's "Carmen" during its 4th Annual Summer Orchestra.

No need to put on that cocktail dress.

Tie and jacket? Throw that idea out the window.

The TCC campus has an on-site auditorium. There, community and student musicians alike join together, headed by chairman of the music department John Falskow.

Carmen is a tale of a Spanish gypsy. Love. Betrayal. Murder. The lively music, easily recognizable by groups of all ages today, makes it easy to close your eyes and imagine the tale as it weaves through the musical notes in your imagination (smaller children may imagine Tom and Jerry feuding).

The even is free (though donations are accepted), enlightening and fun. Take the family Saturday morning at 11 a.m. to TCC building 2 Auditorium (12th Street side of campus).
