Bowling For UP Recreation

A fundraiser is scheduled March 25 at Narrows Plaza Bowl.

When I was a boy growing up in southern Minnesota, some of the guys that were in school with me worked at the local bowling alley setting pins.

I can remember them talking about how they got doubles working, which was hand-setting up pins on two bowling lanes at the same time. This was a big deal for them as they made more money, but were they beat the next day in school.

Things have changed in the last 50 years. For those of you who watch Under Cover Boss following 60 Minutes on Sunday night TV, you know that bowling today is an entirely different event, much more family oriented.

Here in University Place, we have a bowling center that is like the family ones described in the show. I was amazed when I recently visited the at 2200 Mildred Street West.

It is a hidden gem within UP.

On March 25, from 6 p.m. to midnight, is sponsoring a fundraiser for the University Place recreation department.  It will be a fun evening of bowling followed by dancing provided by Rock 'N' Roll Magic. Bowling is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and dancing after that till midnight.

We are looking for 40 team captains to each put a team together of eight friends for some friendly community competition to support the rec department. For $25 per person, you will receive two hours of bowling and the use of rental shoes.  All ages can participate as this is a really family friendly center.

For tickets call 564-6373 for a fun-filled evening of bowling and dancing.
