BITES NEARBY: MSM

A nearby deli stands above the rest. It's name says it all, really.

Magical Sandwich Makers.

This is not a mythical creature like a Keebler elf or the Trix rabbit. This is a sandwich shop. Also known as MSM.

And if the name alone fails to convince you that it's legit, its sandwiches will.

To see MSM as you zip by on the busy Sixth Avenue in Tacoma, it doesn't look like much. A convenient store appeal with a sign that is all kinds of wonky (backwards and missing letters). Even as you enter, you see the usual aisles full of our favorite potato chip brands and other snack goodness. Chilled beverages line the walls, beer and sodas alike.

There's no magic in that.

But the sandwiches are what it's all about. This little shop made it to the No. 2 slot in King 5's 2010 "Best Of" list.

I recommend calling in your order ahead of time as often the line goes out the door. Everyone is anxious to get their hands on their favorite hoagie.

Fresh baked bread with just the right amount of upper crust surrounding the insides filled with cold cuts, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and sprouts. Slathered with a healthy serving of mayo and mustard. Love roast beef and bacon? Try the BBC (Beef, Bacon and Cheese). Or for the hungry man (or wo-man), wrap your chompers around a Mike's Deluxe - a 9-inch behemoth French roll stuffed with roast beef, turkey, ham, swiss AND chedder, pickles and all the fixins'.

Perfect for lunch at work, your Sunday picnic in the park or taking a seat and munching right then and there. Tell me your mouth isn't watering.

Magic indeed.

Just read that story. Great article, and a well deserved award. I haven't really followed the teamRead More this year. Do they have a shot this week in state? It's at MT Tahoma, so I may just have to head over there.

No sweat Dan. Here's the link. By the way, this story also took first in the Washington PressRead More Association contest, so people apparently related to the team's story. Go Curtis!

I went to Mt. St. Helens and did a hike last weekend. It's so amazing to see a broken mountain inRead More repair... I hadn't been since I was a kid, but it was quite an experience!
