And Last But Not Least, UP's Brason Alexander

Patch's perennial parks and rec guru gives his final profile of the people behind the city's recreation department.

Brason Alexander, recreation supervisor, is the remaining member of the recreation team that I am profiling.

He, like , is from the other side of the mountains near Coeur D’ Alene, ID. He started his post-high school education in Los Angeles in the junior college system there before being recruited to play basketball at the University of Puget Sound. He played point guard for the Loggers for three years.

It was during this period that Brason became active in the recreation field doing work-study at the Boys & Girls Club of Tacoma.  Upon his graduation, he worked as one of the athletic directors at the club, a position he held for two years. This experience led him to the Pearl Street Y in Tacoma where he was a program director, gaining more experience and knowledge in the field of recreation.

Coming to University Place over four years ago, one of his duties is the Youth Council’s staff support. Those of you that have attended any of the recent Daddy-Daughter Dances  sponsored by the UP Youth Council know what an effective support leader he is to this group.

Summer Camps are a great success of the recreation department. A great deal of this success can be attributed to the skill that Brason exhibits with the youth that are his coaches and counselors at these camps.

A little-known fact is that he taught himself to play the acoustic guitar.  He is now part of a band that is performing gigs in the area.

These last four columns have spotlighted the four individuals who are making the recreation department such a success. With the experience, dedication and enthusiasm these four individual have shown, it is no wonder that we have such recreation system.

Branson Alexander, Todd Smith, , and - thank you for your hard work and dedication.
