University Place Festival

Time: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. 

The countdown to the UP Festival has begun! Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 3 when Cirque Park becomes a community playground in celebration of UP's 18th birthday!

UP Patch will post more information about UP Festival throughout the week and at the event, but until then you can catch up on the Tacoma Events Commission website

Author Event: Driving the Pan-American – 33,000 miles of Camping, Cooking and Close Calls
Thurs., Aug. 1, 2013
University Place Library
Time: 7 p.m.

Join the UP Library for travel tales and photos from digital nomads who took working remotely to a whole new level. Meet travelers Jared McCaffree, Jessica Mans and Kobus Mans, authors of “Don’t Go There. It’s Not Safe. You’ll Die: And Other More Rational Advice for Overlanding Mexico and Central America” and “Forks in the Road: Recipes from Overlanding the Pan-American Highway.”

Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Tacoma Bon Odori
Sat., Aug. 3 at Tacoma Buddhist Temple
Time: 8 p.m.

This Annual street festival features Japanese folk dance, candlelight memorial & drum groups Matsuri Taiko, of Seattle, & Fuji Taiko, of Tacoma. Dozens of dancers, most wearing colorful yukata and other traditional garb, will dance under hanging lanterns in the street. Dances are simple, and everyone is welcome to join in.

Drinks at Narrows Plaza Bowl

Any day: 11 a.m. to closing

Narrows Plaza Bowl begins its partnership with the Ale House this week, with staff serving at 11 a.m. every day, starting Monday. Stop in, have a drink and support local businesses.

Community Keepers Luau Diaper Drive
Sat., Aug. 3, 2013

Don't forget to bring a pack of unopened disposable diapers to UP Festival this Saturday. All sizes accepted including preemies. This benefits the UP Food Bank and YWCA.
