Undefeated Annie Wright Gators Head to State for Volleyball Championship

Annie Wright Upper School’s varsity volleyball team will compete in the 2012 1A Washington State Volleyball Championships this Friday, November 9, in Yakima.

Annie Wright Upper School’s varsity volleyball team will compete in the 2012 1A Washington State Volleyball Championships. Annie Wright’s Lady Gators will play against Zillah at 9:00 am on Friday, November 9, in the Yakima Valley SunDome, with the final championship game on Saturday, November 10, at 6:00 pm.

The Lady Gators head to the championship series undefeated, having won 15 games of the regular 2012 season. The team continued their winning streak with two more wins at a November 3 tournament, taking home the title of 1A Tri-District Champions.

The team includes seniors and co-captains Lani Kalalau and Lexi Ross; seniors Leslie Bauska and Shiori Oki; juniors Margaux Arntson and Tori Smith; and sophomores Lexi LeClech, Kayley Turner and Maria Vipond. This is coach Rodney Kalalau’s seventh season leading the Lady Gators, and his fifteenth coaching high school and college volleyball.

“This year’s team brings a breadth of leadership, experience and versatility to the game,” says Cheryl Zaragoza, Athletic Director at Annie Wright. “Several of the starting players can play at least one other position, giving the team options both defensively and offensively which should prove to keep opponents on their toes.”

Cheer on the Lady Gators at the Yakima Valley SunDome; 1301 South Fair Avenue; Yakima, Wash. Can’t make the game? Keep posted on the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association website
