Annie Wight Upper School announced that two athletes have signed letters of intent for full athletic scholarships with universities. Seniors Kadie Brown and Lani Kalalau publicly signed their contracts on Monday, November 19, at an Upper School gathering.
Kadie Brown of Federal Way will attend University of Washington, joining their rowing team. Brown most recently earned silver in the women’s pair race at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria this summer. In June, she won a national title with her Commencement Bay Rowing Club teammates.
Lani Kalalau of University Place will attend Western Oregon University, where she will play volleyball. As floor captain and outside hitter, Kalalau recently helped lead Annie Wright’s varsity volleyball team to the state playoffs, placing seventh. Kalalau has also played for the Junior Olympic National Championships with six appearances.
“Kadie and Lani have worked really hard and it’s been a joy to watch as they pursue their passions,” says Jake Guadnola, Co-Director of Annie Wright Upper School. “We are thrilled for both young women and look forward to their future success.”
Family joined Brown and Kalalau at an afternoon signing ceremony, where the all-girls Upper School cheered them on. Each girl thanked their families, friends and the Annie Wright community for supporting them in their endeavors to be student-athletes.
