Diabetes Control During the Holidays

Diabetes doesn't take a holiday. Keep your glucose under control so you can enjoy family and friends during the holiday season.

When you have Diabetes, you can still enjoy family gatherings and usual holiday festivities. This isn’t a time to neglect your self care.

You can try some simple strategies to maintain good glucose levels, and prevent fatigue. You’ve been handling your glucose levels all year long and now isn’t the time to take a vacation from self care. Diabetes and glucose spikes doesn’t take a vacation. If you have been successful this far keeping you glucose levels within an acceptable range, you have been on the right track.

Remmber these points:

–Eat a small, balanced meal or snack before you leave home.before you. When you miss a meal, so you can eat more later, is counterproductive.

– Choose vegetables first. They have high fiber and filling capacity without excess carbohydrates. Try Broccoli, baby carrots, cauliflower, eggplant or cucumbers. These foods also tame your appetite.

– Share your stories with family and friends away from the food displays.

– Stay well hydrated with water, club soda, or flavored seltzer, neither have sugar added.

– Invite friends for a walk after dinner.


– Limit alcohol intake, especially sweetened drinks. Make your own spritzer with seltzer or diet ginger ale.
