Thousands of visitors turned out Sunday for the inaugural “Wings & Wheels” gathering of vintage aircraft and motor vehicles at Tacoma Narrows Airport.

Coinciding with today's Fourth of July "Freedom Fair" on Commencement Bay, Wings & Wheels featured aircraft fly-bys, plane and helicopter rides, and the chance for visitors to get up close and personal with vintage military aircraft and their pilots, as well as classic vehicles/custom motorcycles and their owners.

Doug Miller, executive director of the Tacoma Events Commission, said "Wings & Wheels," the first big gathering at the Tacoma Narrows Airport in nearly 20 years, was organized to help underwrite the cost of today's air show.

Patch was on hand Sunday to capture the day in photographs. Check them out in the photo gallery.

Wings and Wheels!! What can I say... It was a full day of excitement and wonder. I am honored to be a part of the Tacoma Events Commission. I am continually impressed by everyone's ability to come together through all of your hard work to create memories. I cannot express in words my gratitude, the professionalism and dedication shown by all of the guys at Markham Investigation and protection... You guys are the best and you proved it once again... Thank you. I was fortunate and it was an honor to be a part of the team and to produce an event of this magnitude and importance. I look forward to continuing to provide this service and this event to the great people of Washington and to Pierce county for many years to come.
