Longtime University Place Librarian Cindy Bonaro has Retired

Last year, she was named University Place's "Volunteer of the Year."

One of the most familiar faces in University Place has retired from her job.

Cindy Bonaro, who had spent years as the Managing Librarian at the local branch of the Pierce County Library System for years, officially retired last week.

The community’s longtime librarian was steeped in everything UP, including leading the University Place Historical Society. Last year, she was honored as University Place’s Volunteer of the Year.

Over the last five years or so, she also helped oversee the library’s move into its new spot in the Civic Building at Town Center.

Mary Getchell, spokeswoman for the Pierce County Library System, told Patch this week: “I miss her already.”

“She truly is a fabulous person,” Getchell added. “She contributed immensely to the library and the communities she served.”

Added Leslie Winchell of UP: “She has done so much for the community.”

Patch will have more on this story later.

Let me guess, now you are going to kick back with your Nook and read! Pretty smart since there are no "late fees" associated with electronic books. Our county has benefited, and will continue to benifit for years to come from your superb management of the library, Thanks for your community service! Howard and Barbara
