Curtis Boys Pull Away From Puyallup In Lacrosse

Curtis continued its success on the lacrosse field with a win over Puyallup on Saturday. Here's the recap, according to Washington State Lacrosse:

PUYALLUP – Colby Carr netted four goals and grabbed seven ground balls as Curtis advanced to its seventh win of the season with a 13 – 5 boys high school lacrosse win over Puyallup, Saturday at Sparks Stadium.

Carr — who will play for the Air Force Academy in the fall — now has 26 goals in eight games this season to rank third among Division I scoring leaders.  

Puyallup kept Curtis in check in the first as coach Lawrence Mackey employed a zone defense to counter the high-scoring offense, forcing the Vikings to the more crowded middle.  In the second, however, Curtis broke away from a two-goal deadlock to net four unanswered scores for a healthy 6 – 2 lead at the intermission. 

In the third, Curtis added another two goals, but Puyallup’s defense led by midfielder Robert Abbott and goalkeeper Josh Kohler kept their team in the game.

The fourth proved too much for Puyallup as Curtis pulled away with 5 goals to seal the win.  Puyallup’s Kohler finished with 17 saves.

Abbott's 11 ground balls and two goals led Puyallup, giving the junior a total of 88 ground balls on the season.  In eight games, he is averaging 11 grabs per game.

Cory Monaghan grabbed seven ground balls and Tony Nigh had 12 saves in goal to lead the Vikings on defense.

Curtis (7-3-0) next faces Tahoma (7-2-0), Wednesday in a 7 p.m. start at home.  Puyallup (0-8-0) next hosts Mercer Island (10-2-0) Saturday in a 7 p.m. start at home.

Beall leads King’s Way lacrosse past Stadium in Tacoma

TACOMA – Attackman Jack Beall scored 3 goals and handed-out 6 assists as King’s Way advanced to 7 – 3 with an 11 – 5 boys lacrosse win over Stadium, Saturday at Mason Middle School in Tacoma.

Saturday’s scoring gave Beall, a sophomore at Camas High School, 36 goals in 10 games this season to lead all scorers in Division I play.

Building on a 2 – 1 first quarter lead, King’s Way added another 4 goals in the second to take a 6 – 3 lead into the intermission. In the third, the Knights blanked Stadium with 2 unanswered goals before adding another 3 in the fourth.

Tyler Preston grabbed 13 ground balls and Max Zandstra made 12 saves in goal to lead the Knights’ on defense. Stadium’s Edgar Valentine netted 2 goals and Evan Lineweaver and Drew Thomas combined for 11 saves in the nets.

Lynnwood forfeits, Vashon awarded lax win

VASHON ISLAND – In a game that never got underway, Vashon was awarded a win as Lynnwood forfeited. The win is the second of the season for Vashon.

Eastside Catholic thumps Lake Tapps in boys lacrosse

 SUMNER – Michael Rambaldini netted 6 goals and grabbed 5 ground balls to lead Eastside Catholic to its 10th win of the season with a 19 – 7 boys high school lacrosse win over Lake Tapps, Saturday at Sumner High School.

The Crusaders jumped-out to a 6 – 1 first-quarter lead before adding another 4 goals in the second to take a healthy 10 – 3 advantage into the half. In the third, Eastside Catholic added another five goals before netting 4 in the fourth to cruise to the win.

Ian Ducharme contributed to the Crusaders’ offense with 5 goals and Jeff Foreman added 3. Michael Lucchesi netted 2 goals for Lake Tapps.

 Snohomish drops British Columbia’s Holy Cross School in boys lax

 MONROE – Freshman Jarrett Toy’s hat trick led Snohomish to a 9 – 7 boys high school lacrosse win over the Holy Cross School of Langley, BC, Saturday at Monroe High School. The non-league win advanced the Panthers to 5 – 2 on the season.

Other Snohomish scorers included Devin Remlinger with 2 goals and Adrew Shaff, Riels Tood and Tanner Krenz all with solo shots. Freshman goaltender Noah Palmaffy had 4 saves in the win.

North Kitsap drops Mt. Si to even boys lax record

 POULSBO – Nick Stevens and Brandon Larsen each scored 2 goals to lead North Kitsap to a 5 – 4 boys high school lacrosse win over Mt. Si, Saturday at Strawberry Park in Poulsbo. The win was the third of the season for North Kitsap as the Viking evened their record at 3 – 3.

Whatcom lacrosse explodes for 6 late goals to down San Juan

 FRIDAY HARBOR – Whatcom exploded for 6 late unanswered goals to power to its fourth win of the season with a 12 – 7 boys high school lacrosse win over the Dragons, Saturday at Friday Harbor High School.

With San Juan leading 7 - 6 in the third, Whatcom took advantage of a slim San Juan roster to wear down the a tired Dragons squad with the final six goals of the game.

San Juan, playing with just two substitute players, had top performances by Sean Hills with 4 goals and 10 ground balls and Cody West with 3 goals and 6 ground balls. Willy Dunn had 12 saves in goal for the Dragons.

Whatcom (4-2-0) next faces North County (3-4-0), Tuesday, April 19 in a 5 p.m. start at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. San Juan (0-7-0) next faces Everett (0-7-0), Saturday, April 23 in a 2 p.m. start at Friday Harbor High School.

North County walks past Port Angeles in boys lax

 PORT ANGELES – Trevin Salminen netted 3 goals to lead North County to its third win of the season with a 6 – 1 boys high school lacrosse defeat of Port Angeles, Saturday at Storm King Soccer Fields in Port Angeles.

North County owned the possession battle for most of the game growing a 2 -1 halftime advantage to a 4-goal lead midway through the third. The Mountaineers added a lone goal in the third, before North County rounded out scoring with a final goal in the third and another in the fourth.

North County’s Cody Bramm, Marcus Fakkema and Edgar Mendoza contributed in the scoring with single goals and goaltender Brandon Van Boven had 4 saves in the nets.

North County (3-4-0) next faces Whatcom (4-2-0), Tuesday, April 19 in a 5 p.m. start at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. Port Angeles (1-4-0) next faces South Kitsap (0-7-0), Monday, April 18, in a 5 p.m. start at Storm King Soccer Fields in Port Angeles.

Bastien’s hat trick leads Klahowya past Liberty in boys lax

 SILVERDALE – Kevin Bastien’s hat trick led Klahowya to its fifth win of the season with a 14 – 5 boys high school lacrosse defeat of Liberty, Saturday at Central Kitsap Junior High in Silverdale.

Bastien netted the first of his 3 goals on the night, putting Klahoway on the board at 2:36 of the first. With the Eagles leading 3 – 0, defender Sam Dodt scampered from deep in the Liberty zone, dodged to the middle and fired an 8-yeard bullet over the right shoulder of Klahowya’s Nehemiah Salo to put the Patriots on the board.

Klahowya built on an 8 – 2 halftime lead to add 2 in the third and 4 in the fourth to seal the win.

Klahowya (5-2-0) next faces Port Angeles (1-4-0), Wednesday, April 20 in a 5:20 p.m. start at Klahowya Secondary School. Liberty (2-4-0) next faces Highline (5-3-0), Thursday, April 21 in an 8 p.m. start at Burien’s Moshier Park.

Bredberg nets 4 to lift Highline to 14 -1 lax win over South Kitsap

 PORT ORCHARD – Scott Bredberg netted 4 goals to lead Highline to its fifth win of the season to lead Highline to a 14 – 1 boys high school lacrosse win over South Kitsap, Saturday at Mullenix Ridge Elementary School in Port Orchard.

Highline built its lead early, netting 5 goals on South Kitsap in the first. Building on an early 5 – 1 advantage, Highline blanked South Kitsap in the second to take a 9 – 1 lead into the half before cruising in the third and fourth quarters.

A total of five Highline players scored in the game, including 2 goals each by Isaac Simpson, Anthony Parker, Calabe Simpson, Brendan Miller and Zachery Sleeper.

Brandon Wasilchin scored the lone goal for South Kitsap and Michael Jarzynka was kept busy with 21 saves in goal.

 Lucchesi nets 4 to lead Tapps past Holy Names in girls lax

 SUMNER – Megan Lucchesi scored 4 goals and Ashley Enlow netted 3 goals to lead Lake Tapps to its fourth win of the season with an 11 – 5 girls high school lacrosse win over Holy Names, Saturday at Sunset Stadium in Sumner.

Tapps built a 6 – 2 lead at the half before pushing to the win. 

Ashley Mounts had 9 saves in goal for Lake Tapps. Peyton Jacobsen and Madeline McDonald had 2 goals and Hope Miles had a solo shot for the Cougars.

Glebe’s 5 goals leads North Kitsap past Evergreen in girls lax

 VANCOUVER, Wash. – Mallory Glebe netted 5 goals and Emilie Poffenroth scored 4 to lead North Kitsap to it second win of the season with an 11 – 5 girls high school lacrosse win over Evergreen, Saturday at Vancouver’s McKenzie Stadium.

Olivia Otto found the net in the opening minute of play to put North Kitsap on the board and lead the Viking’s charge to a 4 – 1 lead at the half. In the second, North poured on another 7 goals to seal the win. Val Kranich and Ashley Ah Chan combined for a dozen saves in the North Kitsap nets.

Mackenzie Nelson had 3 goals to lead Evergreen, but the Black Cats offense was unable to make the most of its scoring opportunities to remain winless for the season.

Casey Bahr had seven saves for Evergreen

McCormick-Dekker nets 4 as Bainbridge girls drop Wenatchee in D2 lacrosse

WENATCHEE – Riley McCormick-Dekker equaled a season-high 4 goals to lead Bainbridge’s girls Division II squad to its third win of the season with a 13 – 7 girls high school lacrosse win over Wenatchee, Saturday at Westside High School in Wenatchee. 

Sallie Marx scored 3 goals and Julie Ischer and Maureen Greason each netted 2 goals to contribute to the Spartans win. Taylor Christiansen had 3 goals and Genesis Garcia had 2 for Wenatchee.
